The challenge

An existing WordPress and Elementor site with two problems that know each other well: page speed crippled by heavy markup and coding habits that had piled up over the years, and a broken accessibility implementation throwing errors across every page - meaning the site wasn't just inaccessible, the very code meant to make it accessible was doing damage of its own.

It's a more common scenario than it sounds: a site that looks "fine" from the outside, with every floor fighting the one beneath it.

What I did

A rescue, not a rebuild - the site and its content were there, just buried under the layers:

  • A thorough pass through the code - stripping out bad markup and the patterns slowing the site down, page by page.
  • Fixing the broken accessibility implementation - instead of code that generates errors, accessibility that works the way the standard intends.
  • Rebuilding the client side - what the visitor downloads and runs became lean and orderly.

The result

A site that loads fast and runs clean - same design, same content, without the dead weight. Just as important: code the next team to touch it will be able to understand.
